James & Claire Callahan Endowment Fund

One option for philanthropic giving to The ACAAM Foundation is the James & Claire Callahan Endowment Fund, developed through the generosity of Dr. James Callahan and his late wife, Claire.

Dr. Callahan is the founding Executive Vice President of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and The ABAM Foundation, the precursor to The ACAAM Foundation, serving in the roles from 2008 through 2012. He was instrumental in the early development and sustainability of the field of Addiction Medicine as a former Executive Vice President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, which he led from 1989-2002.

The James & Claire Callahan Endowment Fund will be seeded by a significant bequest included in Dr. Callahan’s Will, in addition to generous support from other donors who have pledged to match the bequest from Dr. Callahan. The fund will support efforts by the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine to support the training of more addiction medicine specialist physicians at the more than 100 Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education-accredited addiction medicine fellowships located at institutions across the U.S.
