Specialized Training for Future Leaders in Addiction Medicine

ACAAM Fellows, enhance your training in adolescent substance use care with a one-week Pediatric Addiction Medicine Rotation at Boston Children’s Hospital. Fellows will gain practical insight into treatment approaches that honor young patients’ growing independence while supporting their vulnerabilities during this critical stage of life.

This immersive program includes 16 hours of clinical telehealth in the Adolescent Substance Use and Addiction Program (ASAP) with a multidisciplinary team, virtual clinical rounds and clinical meetings, and access to valuable educational didactics during and after rotation.

Welcoming Dr. John Fomeche as the 2025 ACAAM/AOD Health Editorial Intern

ACAAM is excited to announce that John Fomeche, MD, has been selected as the 2025 ACAAM/AOD Health Rich Saitz Editorial Intern!

Dr. Fomeche is currently an Addiction Medicine Fellow at Yale University and a recent graduate of the Stamford Hospital Internal Medicine Residency. Born in Cameroon and raised in Arizona, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona and studied abroad in Singapore before attending medical school in Poland. These experiences across continents have shaped his global perspective on health, equity, and patient care.

New CDC and NIDA Tools to Advance Overdose Prevention & Youth Substance Use Awareness

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recently shared several important resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that can support awareness, education, and prevention efforts across our communities.

• National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day – August 21: This annual day of recognition honors lives lost to fentanyl and raise awareness of the dangers of illegally made fentanyl. The 2025 theme—hope and mental health—underscores the role of reducing stigma, raising awareness, and fostering healing. Despite a recent decline in overdose deaths, fentanyl continues to drive the overdose crisis. Access CDC’s public toolkit for key messages, social media content, and other outreach resources here.
