ACAAM is excited to announce that John Fomeche, MD, has been selected as the 2025 ACAAM/AOD Health Rich Saitz Editorial Intern!

Dr. Fomeche is currently an Addiction Medicine Fellow at Yale University and a recent graduate of the Stamford Hospital Internal Medicine Residency. Born in Cameroon and raised in Arizona, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona and studied abroad in Singapore before attending medical school in Poland. These experiences across continents have shaped his global perspective on health, equity, and patient care.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recently shared several important resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that can support awareness, education, and prevention efforts across our communities.

  • National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day – August 21: This annual day of recognition honors lives lost to fentanyl and raise awareness of the dangers of illegally made fentanyl. The 2025 theme—hope and mental health—underscores the role of reducing stigma, raising awareness, and fostering healing.
