Honoring Recovery Awareness Month

Uniting for Recovery: Supporting Addiction Medicine Fellowship Programs, Academic Excellence, and Leadership Development

Every September, communities across the nation come together to recognize Recovery Awareness Month—a time dedicated to celebrating the triumphs and ongoing journeys of individuals overcoming substance use disorders, as well as the families, professionals, and organizations that support them. This year, the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) is proud to launch a fundraising campaign throughout the month of September, inviting both members and prospects to join in supporting our shared mission to promote academic excellence and inspire leadership in addiction medicine.

The Importance of Recovery Awareness Month

Recovery Awareness Month is a call to action—an opportunity to reduce stigma, foster hope, and highlight the transformative power of recovery. Addiction remains one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized health conditions. Misconceptions and negative stereotypes often discourage individuals from seeking help and hinder efforts to build supportive networks.

By supporting ACAAM, you help build a more compassionate society, celebrate stories of recovery, and champion a culture of acceptance and understanding.

ACAAM's Commitment to Addiction Medicine

ACAAM stands at the forefront of advancing the practice of addiction medicine through education and leadership development. Our commitment is guided by four strategic pillars:

  1. Work Force Development: Attract, develop, and sustain a diverse and thriving addiction medicine workforce.
  2. Education: Create and curate educational opportunities and resources for the academic addiction medicine community.
  3. ACAAM Community: Provide and expand opportunities for leadership development, wellness, and sustainability in academic addiction medicine.
  4. External Engagement: Promote the critical role of academic addiction medicine through partnerships, collaborations, and thought leadership.
How you can get involved

This campaign is an invitation—for long-standing members and new supporters alike—to be part of meaningful change. There are many ways to contribute:
