11:35 am – Moving Beyond Kneeling: Promoting an anti-racist and racial justice framework within academic addiction medicine fellowships

Join ACAAM’s Anti-Racism/Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee members for a frank and open discussion that will explore the real-life experiences of URM fellows and faculty in addiction medicine. Session participants will leave with a better understanding of these experiences and examples of ways to provide safe spaces that will enhance the experience of your Underrepresented Minority colleagues across the country.

2:45 pm – Updates on Addiction Medicine Task Forces

Learn about the work to be undertaken by two program director-led task forces, one that will explore opportunities to enhance and strengthen the addiction medicine fellowship pipeline, and a second that will discuss next steps on the fellowship application timeline for the 2022 fellowship application window.

3:15 pm – The HEALing Communities Study – An RCT to Reduce Opioid Overdose Deaths in 67 Communities – Thoughts from the Massachusetts Site

Join Jeffrey H. Samet, MD MA MPH, Principal Investigator of the HEALing Communities Study Massachusetts site, and Alexander Y. Walley, MD MSc, Director of the Grayken Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program at Boston Medical Center, as they discuss the study, its aims, the strategies, and the community collaborations forged to reduce overdose deaths in eight Massachusetts communities.

4:30 pm – The Biden-Harris Administration's Policy Priorities for Addressing the Addiction and Overdose Epidemic

Ariel “Air” Britt, MSW, Associate Director of Outreach at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), will be discussing her experience as a Black woman in recovery and how the Biden-Harris Administration is working to build the addiction infrastructure our country needs, including efforts in prevention for youth and other vulnerable populations.
